Soul Eater, the Rune of Life and Death, stirs... A fateful conflict, later known as the Gate Rune War, begins. In year 446 of the Solar Year Calendar, the War of Succession breaks out within the Scarlet Moon Empire. The rightful heir to the throne, Barbarossa Rugner, achieves a turnaround victory thanks to the efforts of the military strategist Leon Silverberg and the Great Generals, which include Teo McDohl among their number. One year after Barbarossa Rugner successfully reclaims the throne, he repels the northern invading forces of the City-States of Jowston, and gradually comes to be hailed by the people as the "Golden Emperor." Years later, Emperor Barbarossa has fallen under the spell of the court magician Windy. As he neglects his duties as Emperor, corruption runs rampant throughout the military and the imperial court. The Scarlet Moon Empire is no longer the glorious imperial power that it once was. In the midst of such uncertain times, the young son of the Great General Teo McDohl arrives for his first audience with the Emperor, not knowing that he will become the cornerstone of change for the future of his country.
